ASPRO Training Course

Prior to the ASPRO (Automatic Sensing, Pressure Reversing Obturator) being fitted, incidents of back contamination have occurred where cylinders being filled have been used on toxic or other undesirable substances and as a result have become contaminated over time.

After filling a cylinder, usually to about 1000 psi, a diverter valve within the fill circuit is switched to recycle. At this point pressure in the cylinder and fill line can rise due to warming of the gas causing back flow. If back flow occurs there is a possibility of contaminated gas leaking past the diverter valve and contaminating the storage vessel.

Fitting the ASPRO prevents possible contamination of the storage vessel. The ASPRO automatically senses rising backpressure and closes a double check valve within the main shuttle. As the double check valve closes the space between the two valves is automatically vented to atmosphere. The vent then stays open until the backpressure is evacuated ready for the next fill cycle. As a result any leakage past the closed valves is also vented to atmosphere thereby preventing the chance of back contamination.

The ASPRO is far superior to fitting of single check valves, which are not considered a suitable preventative measure when dealing with the food and drink industry due to the possibility of leakage past them.

Bestobell Valves now run a one-day introductory training course to the ASPRO. The course covers both the ¼” unit and the ¾” unit and is suitable for both technical and non-technical staff.

  • 10.00 - 10.45 am.
    • Introductions followed by a technical presentation covering background information to the development, individual components and operation of the ASPRO.
  • 10.45 – 11.00 am.
    • Overview of the major differences between the ¼” and ¾” of units and their applications following which attendees will have opportunity to ask any questions.
  • 11.00 – 12.00 am.
    • Attendees have the chance to examine the components of each valve close up and see how the valves are assembled.
  • 12.00 – 12.45 pm.
    • Break midday for a buffet lunch.
  • 12.45 – 1.45 pm.
    • Tour of the factory area and opportunity to see ASPRO units on test and examine the test equipment used.
  • 1.45 – 2.15 pm.
    • A review on the day’s activity and a final chance to ask questions and discus applications.
  • 2.15 – 2.30 pm.
    • The course ends with a brief discussion on commercial aspects and pricing.
